Harmony - Advance Reservations in Heterogeneous Multi-domain Environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Grid computing aims at offering standardized access to heterogeneous and distributed resources for scientific communities. In order to ensure certain quality of service requirements, the interconnecting networks have also be considered as Grid resources and must be taken into account for the co-scheduling process. However, most current systems do not support co-allocation of heterogeneous network resource provisioning systems and malleable advance reservations in multi-domain, multitechnology, and multi-vendor environments. Our approach, called Harmony, provides a functional service plane to unify the underlying network management systems and supports advanced reservation capabilities to utilize the available capacity and network resources in an efficient manner. The developed prototype has been demonstrated on numerous conferences and a preliminary performance evaluation of the current implementation is given.

متن کاملARGON: Reservation in Grid-enabled Networks
Grid computing offers heterogeneous and distributed resources to scientific communities. Apparently, networks connecting these resources can also be considered as Grid resources. This paper presents ARGON, a system that integrates metro and wide area networks into Grid environments by providing advance reservations and guaranteed network services. Here, single-domain as well as multidomain netw...
متن کاملResource sharing in advance reservation agents
We present an architecture where clients can make end-to-end resource reservations through agents. For each domain in the network, there is an agent responsible for immediate and advance admission control. Reservations from di erent sources to the same destination domain are aggregated as their paths merge toward the destination. We show that network resources can be shared between immediate an...
متن کاملA Unified Resource Scheduling Framework for Heterogeneous Computing Environments
A major challenge in Metacomputing Systems (Computational Grids) is to effectively use their shared resources, such as compute cycles, memory, communication network, and data repositories, to optimize desired global objectives. In this paper we develop a unified framework for resource scheduling in metacomputing systems where tasks with various requirements are submitted from participant sites....
متن کاملFailure Recovery in Distributed Environments with Advance Reservation Management Systems
Resource reservations in advance are a mature concept for the allocation of various resources, particularly in grid environments. Common grid toolkits such as Globus support advance reservations and assign jobs to resources at admission time. While the allocation mechanisms for advance reservations are available in current grid management systems, in case of failures the advance reservation per...
